Sightseeing in Seattle

Updated: Jan 30, 2019

The iconic Space Needle tower which stands at 605ft tall was a great way to take in the city from above, even on a cloudy afternoon. The Seattle Great Wheel, although much smaller than the London Eye was a pretty sight at night with its' colourful lights reflecting on the waterfront.

While walking through the historic Pike Place Market (est. 1907) and eying up the fresh produce, we stumbled across Post Alley which we saw crowds of people gathered in as we arrived at our apartment earlier in the day. The attraction was a 'gum wall' which was a colourful, gooey collection of gum which had a pungent smell of Hubba Bubba. Thegum wall began in the early 1990s when theatre goers stuck there gum to the wall while queuing up for improv comedy shows at Unexpected Productions. It was pretty gross but kind of cool at the same time, we didn't add to the sticky array of gum but many other tourists were adding to the display.

We drove around the city the following morning and stopped outside the Nordic museum, being a Monday it was unfortunately closed but it was still nice to take a few snaps of the architecture from the outside. The buildings' slanted walls were inspired by fjords. Afterwards we stopped off under Aurora Bridge to see the 'Freemont Troll' who has lived there since a community art project scultpted him in 1990. A looming statue of a troll large enough to clutch a full size VW Beetle in his hand and has a hubcap for an eye!
