A welcome drink greeted us as we arrived at Bali Nibbana Hotel, where we booked to stay for the next week. Our room was lovely, with our bed decorated in frangipanis and an outdoor bathroom. We enjoyed breakfast outside our room and then headed further west to check out the dive schools at the famous Pemuteran. Rory booked onto a three day open water certification at Ocean dreams dive centre, his teacher Gede Karma, a rather overweight smoker, was great and the course only included Rory so it was excellent. On day one after a pool session he dived out at the Pemuteran bio rock projects where they are feeding electric current through metal structures to increase the rate of coral growth.
Day two included two dives out at Pemuteran reef after usefully passing his exams in the morning, these reefs had plenty of ocean life including Barracuda. Day three was the highlight of the course, diving out at Menjangan Island with Carrie also coming out on the boat with a group of snorkellers. The second dive at the Bat Cave sea wall was stunning and a real diving highlight, on the accent Carrie also spotted a green turtle and Rory had the chance to get up and close to this beautiful creature without the normal issue of having to come up for air.
Course completed we then drive south and into the cooler mountains and the many waterfalls around the village of Munduk before having a lovely dinner at the Vegetarian restaurant of Akar Café before watching sunset at Lovina beach. The following day after Rory drove back to Ocean dreams to collect some pictures, he loved that 40-minute drive every day there and back so much he named it the commute.
