Adelaide

After landing in Melbourne we drove out towards Adelaide spending the night in the small roadside town of Keith. The following morning, we continued on to Gorge wildlife park where we had the amazing experience of holding Kola something of a lifelong ambition of Carrie’s. They did not disappoint, they had the cutest faces, dense grey fur and smelled of the fresh eucalyptus leaves they were eating while we held them. Koalas sleep around 18 hours a day due to their diet; eucalyptus leaves are incredibly hard to digest which takes a lot of energy in addition they are not the most nutrient dense vegetation so koalas get little energy from them. So contrary to belief, koalas are not ‘high’ on eucalyptus but just lacking energy which makes them perfect for a cuddle!

After our marsupial encounters we headed to Bikram yoga Adelaide to surprise Candi, my roommate for nine weeks at yoga teacher training. It was absolutely fantastic to see her (the look on her face as I walked into the studio)! We were both giddy with excitement to see each other and she led an excellent class (as I knew she would). After class we met her husband, Nutty and his parents who were all lovely. We enjoyed catching up over pizza and a little local wine from Adelaide Hills.

The next morning, after a lie in to recover from the long drive, we went to the café/gallery Candi works in once a week for coffee and delicious salted chocolate brownie and a date crumble slice. We headed in to the city for a mooch around the market where we ate some excellent Asian food followed by custard filled pancakes, yum. Nutty took us to his two favourite pubs, one of which had a real ‘London’ feel about it. We were reluctant to say our goodbyes but we only had limited time in South Australia. We’d love to visit Adelaide again one day (in their summertime) to enjoy the vineyards and beautiful beaches and hills.
