Cartagena

When we arrived at the Mariana of Cartagena passing the old fortifications of the bay, it was already hot and still only mid-morning. After a short taxi ride to the old town we checked in to the https://friends-to-be.hotels-cartagenacolombia.com/en/ a lovely colonial building in the Getsemani district.

After meeting Carrie’s father and brother we had a quick lunch then spent the afternoon walking the streets of the old town. The following day we visited the Palace of the Inquisition, an excellently preserved colonial building with a brutal history of torture and execution.

In the afternoon we visited the fort of Cartagena a formidable defensive structure that was never breached and houses a series of connected tunnels. Cartagena’s charming and colourful colonial buildings and selection of bars & restaurants where reminiscent of Antigua and the area of Casco Viejo in Panama City.
