Whistler (British Columbia)

Week 4

Our final week on the slopes and we really made the most of our days, we were on piste around 6 hours each day, hitting tree runs, double diamond blacks run, the Whistler Bowl, Blackcomb Glacier and exploring as much of the remaining mountains which we had not skied yet. Tuesday brought snowfall all day, Rory braced himself for the weather and went snowboarding with Lyon (a sweet guy from Taiwan who was staying in the room next to us) and I stayed at home practising yoga and relaxing in the hot tub. Wednesday was an absolute dream on the mountains, the previous days' 30cms of snow meant perfect conditions for fresh turns in the snow. It was a beautifully clear day too and the sun shone brightly all day too, best day yet! On Friday we ventured down into Blackcomb Glacier and went to take a look at the ice cave there. It was amazing to see, so smooth and perfectly layered to look like frozen marble. On the Saturday we made the most of our last day before the evening bus back to Vancouver by skiing Whistler peak & Harmony in the morning having lunch at the Roundhouse restaurant (which was excellent) and then the afternoon at 7th Heaven on Blackcomb.

Week 3

This week started with flurries of snow, on the Tuesday we were almost the last down the mountain with the sunset as the lift broke down on 7th Heaven. It was actually a bit of a blessing as we were given $100 compensation vouchers for any mountain restaurant and we were on the lift with a lovely couple from the Bay area with plenty to talk about in the sunshine. Later in the week Carrie had a Ski lesson which has really improved her skiing and she's tackling the black runs. We've met people from all over on holiday here but it's mainly Australian and English people working in the F&B industry. Sunday was a complete 'white out' and we had another good dumping of snow so we spent the day at the local leisure centre for a gym and swim followed by the most delicious, soft and chewy '2-bite chocolate brownies'.

Week 2

Our second week here and we're feeling very much at home on the mountains, It has also been quieter on the slopes now the holidays are over so we have enjoyed shorter lift queues and pistes to ourselves. The weather has been mixed, snow, rain and grey skies spliced with some sunshine and 'blue bird skies' for the best visibility. The temperature has dipped to -6°C overnight but average of -3°C on the mountains during the day. After a full day on the slopes, tired legs and cold red faces, a dip in the hot tub has been the perfect way to unwind.

Week 1

So we've been here a week already and the time has flown by... The Whistler bubble is quite something. Can't wait for three more weeks of mountain life.
