Potosi
The mining town which accounts for 60 percent of the worlds silver and the main coin minting centre of the Spanish empire. A city with poverty and the remains of the Spanish empires’ colonial architecture at over 4000 meters above sea level. We explored the mine with our guide and former member of the mining cooperative whose father and grandfather had both worked the mine before him. Still mined by other 7000 men today, life in the mine is generally short and fuelled by coca leaves, Cocoroco 96 percent alcohol and cigarettes. You can also freely buy dynamite in the street, quite a place.
