Vancouver (British Columbia)

 -our first night away...

Vancouver felt like a home away from home with grey London skies and drizzle. I woke up early to visit Bikram Yoga on Commercial Drive for an early morning class and Rory went out for coffee and walked past the football stadium. We walked through the skyscrapers down to the waterfront, there is a chain of pubs called 'Elephant and Castle' (another hint of home).

After an hour or so we decided to stop off for an early lunch and stumbled across a Korean restaurant called 'SURA'. For $15 each we enjoyed an eight course menu of Korean delights, it was a bustling place with queues out the door as we sat down to eat.

After lunch we boarded the 'Epic Rides' bus to Whistler. The journey took us along the river inlet which has multiple islands (similar to a fjord in Scotland or Norway). The mountains are enormous, they look so majestic with their snow covered peaks.

The journey from Vancouver's Burrard Station to our accommodation in The Alpines - just outside Whistler, took around three hours. We met our hosts for the next month, a nice family who were very welcoming and invited us to join them for a roast beef dinner, which went down a treat!
