Duvauchelle and Banks Peninsula

We drove through Christchurch (a typical western new town in the American vernacular) before heading west following the sweeping roads out to Banks peninsula. New Zealand has some of the prettiest roads which were very quiet this time of year, I’m sure the summer would be a very different story. The whole area was formed by volcanoes which have created a series of bays.

After staying in a picturesque campsite in Duvauchelle, over looking the main bay, we drove around the bay to the town of Akaroa. Upon arrival we discovered we had a flat tire but thanks to a friendly garage near by loaning us some tools, Rory and I had it fixed in a jiffy! We bought some delicious locally made fudge and drove the scenic coastal road back to Christchurch. We stayed in a campsite really close to the airport ready for the next days’ lunchtime departure to Fiji.
