Nusa Penida
This stunning island of natural beauty with rugged cliff faces dropping into a dramatic crashing ocean, has become a popular day trip destination on the Bali tourist trail. We stayed in a lovely hill top villa called Teba Garden Hill with a pool over looking the north side of the island.
On our second day, after settling into our hotel, we drove to the main tourist attractions of Kelingking beach: a stunning double-sided cove, then onto Angels Billabong before spending the afternoon snorkelling in Crystal Bay. In the late afternoon, we drove on to Amok Sunset: a really cool cliff top bar and pool for a stunning sunset.
On the third day, we drove north and then east, firstly stopping at Goa Giri Putri Temple which is set within a cave, the opening is a small crack that you slide through into a large chamber, with multiple shrines. Next stop, to the far east of the island, was the white beach of Atuh, a lovely spot, with a sea arch cave backdrop.
For our last full day before leaving, we packed in another full day of driving (some really terrible roads) first stop being the stunning Seganing Waterfall look out, then down to Tembeling Beach and Forest; a beautiful spot so peaceful and majestic. Next stop and our highlight of the island if not one of our best spots in Bali, Peguyangan temple shrine at the base of a cliff face after climbing over 700 steps down you reach a series of shrines that sit on a rock plateau above the crashing ocean waves. A waterfall cascades from the cliff into the sea at this point and it’s one of the most spiritual places we’ve ever been and a true highlight of our trip. As if this was not enough to pack into one day, we then drove even further east to Suwehan beach however after the terrible road down to the temple and the beginning of the steps down we decided just to view it from the impressive top. A stunning island.
