Monteverde

We stepped out of the bus at 7pm to rain and a cold wind. It was the coldest we had been since hiking Volcan Acatenagngo and the first rain since Mexico. The cloud forests of Selvatura Park were great. We walked the trails amongst the trees and across the bridges where Rory spotted a colourful green Queztal (ironically the national bird of Guatemala although we didn’t see any there). We spent time in the hummingbird garden there too, they were so beautiful to behold as they flitted around the sugar water feeders. As we put our fingers near the humming birds which they perched on as they drank nectar, their wings beating fast and buzzing like an insect.

We stopped by Tipico restaurant in the town and really enjoyed chicken fajitas with sautéed plantain and Tipico beef steak with rice and beans. In the afternoon we visited Extreme Ziplining, the first of its’ kind in Monterrico. We met a guy from Bologna, in Italy, who had done a fair amount of travelling and was there to meet his girlfriend for a holiday (she lives in Chile).  The ziplining above the canopy was great fun, especially the superman cable, Tarzan swing and the couples zipline.
